Chuck & Son's on "being kind and trying your best".

Chuck & Son's on how classic nostalgia mixed with modern thinking rewrote this iconic brewing family's vision to create the kind of beer they knew we'd always dreamed of.

Chuck & Son's on how classic nostalgia mixed with modern thinking rewrote this iconic brewing family's vision to create the kind of beer they knew we'd always dreamed of.

We get to work with some pretty special businesses but sitting down with Amy Malpass Hahn (General Manager) was a treat like no other. Knowing we are cut from the same cloth makes producing merch for this ambitious and considered family, all the more enjoyable.

Chuck and Son's has a long family history in the beer and beverage game - how does that impact your decision making and why did you decide to do things differently?

At Chuck & Son's Brewing Co., our mission is simple - to make really good beer. And while that mission might be simple, it's not necessarily easy! But we like to think that simplicity of mission is what sets us apart in this great industry. There's no question that the beer world is flooded with brands, so we've set out to do things a little differently - with a nod to tradition and an unwavering commitment to perfection. Given that we are lucky enough to have Australia's most respected and decorated craft brewer at our helm - Chuck Hahn - it goes without saying that our beers are always going to lean toward classic, nostalgic craft. We want our beers to be the classics in your beer fridge - the brews you return to time and time again because they're just so darn good. We're not experimenting with crazy flavours or messing around with ABV - we're just making the beers that you want to pull out for a great dinner party, to sip on and savour in solitude, or to enjoy with family and friends. They're reliable, they're consistent, they're exceptional.

Doing good business, is Good Business. How does that apply to you and your team? i.e what are some examples of you rewiring the regular programming to bring good sh*t back into the fold?

My husband Scott is the "son" in Chuck & Son's Brewing Co., and along with our three young boys, our family motto is to "be kind and try your best." And given this business is now an extension of our own family, we're applying that same motto to our team and our work. We're always going to be focused on doing the right thing by our people (be it our team or our customers), making really good beer, and creating exceptional experiences. This looks like lots of tiny decisions (and some big ones) - whether it's our fully electric brewery (very rare in Australia) that means we can run a more sustainable operation, to the second-hand furniture and trinkets we have sourced for our Tap Room (including our 9-metre bar which used to be a tree in Pymble Golf Club before it was struck by lightning!), to the family-owned, independent brands we partner with. It all means a lot to us. Another thing we're really passionate about is being an inclusive space. Everyone is welcome at The Tap Room - every age group, every gender, every pet (well, most) - and we go out of our way to not only be passively inclusive, but to be actively welcoming. So there's always something for everyone on the menu!

When selecting apparel/merch/uniforms for your business why was it important to choose The Common Good Company?

This was SUCH a no-brainer for us. The Common Good Company meet all our goals of being a great business that works with other great businesses. We absolutely love their commitment to sustainability, their ethical practices, and how wonderful they are to work with. The icing on the cake is that their products are really, really good. The quality of the pieces are second to none. We are proud to be partnering with such a great company! (Thanks guys!)

We like working with businesses who are purpose-packed and driven to make change. How does that look for you in the next 12 months?

In the next 12 months, we're focused on bringing more of Chuck & Son's Brewing Co. to more people. We've spent the first 12 months of business really focused on what we can control - our beers, our team and our Tap Room. Now, we're launching out into the world. We're bringing our beers to pubs, clubs, restaurants, bars and venues all over Sydney and ultimately all over Australia. We want to create more moments for connection and enjoyment over these products we're so proud of.

What are your hopes for the future of your industry?

If you asked the brewers in our team, I'm sure they'd have lots more to say (particularly around excise) but for me in a more general capacity, I'm just excited to see how we can continue to create great moments for people to connect in an inclusive, enjoyable, memorable way. If our beers can provide a little bit of that enjoyment and connection, I'm delighted.
